INSIDE AND OUTSIDE
1. Open your Bible to the Book of Leviticus and read the following passages in Chapter 13: 1-2, 44-46 which prescribes how one is to treat someone who is diagnosed with the disease of leprosy.
2. Find the Gospel of Mark and read Chapter 1:40-45 which describes Jesus curing a man with leprosy. This account is also at Matthew 8:1-4 and Luke 5:12-16. There are other accounts of other occasions Jesus cured people of leprosy including at Luke 17:11-19 when He cured ten men of this 'dreaded' disease. [Note: the passages from Leviticus and Mark were two of the readings used at Mass on the 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time, 14 February 2021.]
3. How would it feel to be someone deemed 'unclean' and needed to "live outside the camp"? This type of treatment of persons with leprosy continued until 'recently', that is the early 1900s including a leper colony an isolated part of the island of Molokai in the Hawaiian islands.
4. Jesus came to bring us together.
5. Today, there are many ways that people are excluded, put 'outside', kept out, etc. contrary to God's commandment to love and to welcome the stranger.
6. Under DOCUMENTS: click, open, and read- "Lesson 18-Handout [Inside and Outside]" and, keeping the passages you have read in mind, complete statements and write a prayer.
