Immaculate Conception Parish Faith Formation Mission Statement
Immaculate Conception Parish continues the mission of Jesus Christ to share, teach, serve, and celebrate God's Word so that his Kingdom may come in its fullness. “The ministry of catechesis serves the Church in that mission.” (NCD) Its chief aim is to make people’s faith “living, conscious, and active through the light of instruction.” (GCD 14).
Goals of the Faith Formation Program
At Immaculate Conception, we strive to provide an enriching, energetic, and engaging faith formation program for all ages. We use curriculums that pull on experiences and teach evangelization based on Scripture and Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church while creating a safe atmosphere for spiritual growth in a community of faith. We are building on the foundations that will lead all of our participants to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and a life of prayer and service to others while serving the needs of all learners in our program.* * * * *Wednesday Night Class
2024-25Our Religious Education classes meet Wednesday evenings from 6:25-7:30. This year, we will have our parish BBQ on August 25th as a final end of summer and welcoming back before school begins! Our First night of classes begins the first week after Labor Day (September 4th), and our final class meeting is the first Wednesday of May (May 7th). All students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade meet in our school gym for a weekly prayer service, then go to their designated areas with their Catechists.
This year, we are encouraging our families to take a few moments to listen to a podcast with their children. We enjoy Catholic Sprouts, which is also available on the Hallow App. Nearly all of these engaging daily episodes are under 5 minutes, informative, and have bite-sized nuggets of faith for the whole family!**************Youth Ministry
Youth ministry activities are an amazing opportunity for middle school and high school students to grow in their faith and fellowship with each other. These activities occasionally take place on Wednesday evenings, but also on many weekends, during the summer, and as scheduled throughout the year. The best way to learn about youth ministry opportunities is through our Facebook page, the bulletin, and on the bulletin boards in church!
This year, thanks to a diocesan grant, we will be using YDisciple small group discussion in our 10-12th grades throughout the year.
October 27th: Called Youth Conference
The DREs of the Northwest Deanery and the Diocese of Sioux City are hosting the Called Youth Conference for 7th-12th graders at St. Joseph's parish in Granville. The conference will focus on the question, "How do you hear God's call in your life?" The day will include Sunday Mass, lunch, games, keynote, breakout sessions, adoration, confession, and service project. Individual registration may be done online at https://scdiocese.org/called or turn in registration forms to the DRE by Oct 1st.**********
Vacation Bible School
Each summer, in the middle of June, we host Vacation Bible School at Immaculate Conception parish. The summer of 2022’s theme was “The Castle of Courage” and we learned about putting on the Armor of God and being strong in our faith. This summer, our VBS theme was “Super Heroes of Faith” and we celebrated a fun week learning how we can share our faith with courage!
2023's Featured Heroes were: St. Terese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, St. Francis Xavier, St. Katherine Drexel, St. Padre Pio, St. Alexander of Jerusalem, St. Maxamilian Kolbe, St. Joan of Arc, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Vincent de Paul!

Future Projects and Youth TripsSeptember 18: Catholic Heart Work Camp information meeting at 5:30 in the Church Hall. Find out what kind of service projects we can do, where we can go, and if we would like to take a group to one of the offered locations.
October 20: Steubenville Youth Conference information meeting at 11:45 (after Mass) in the Gathering/Adult Education Room. Learn about this amazing Youth Conference, discuss which location best suits our group and which time works best to travel.
October 30-November 20: Fill-A-Wagon Food Drive for the CAP food pantry
January 26: Abide Omaha / GoServ service trip information meeting at 11:45 (after Mass) in the Gathering/Adult Education Room. Hear testimonies from youth who have experienced this trip, learn more about how we can help close to home.
February 12:Then Feed Just One will be at Immaculate Conception! We will be joined by the local FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) group in a packing event to help pack nutritious, life saving meals that will be sent to children and families in Honduras, Central America.
Past Projects
In February:
Our 3rd Grade classroom designed and decorated Valentine's Day cards which were delivered to a local nursing home.
Our 4th Grade classroom adopted members of our RCIA class in prayer through the season of Lent.
Our 9th Grade Confirmation Prep decorated cookies and made Valentine's Day cards and delivered them to neighbors, nursing homes, shut-ins, and other members of the community.
In April:
We took a small group of 10th graders to Abide of Omaha, for a service weekend sponsored by GoServe Global. We will be helped with our second weekend of community clean up, campus ministry, and anything else they asked of us.
Our 5th grade class made "Thank You for Your Service" goodie bags for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Dept. and the Cherokee Police Dept. The officers were very grateful and appreciative of the thoughtfulness and the kind gesture of the class. -
