The presidential election is coming soon. It is important to understand the principles and related themes from the Catholic social teaching that provide a moral framework for making decisions. They are not partisan, and they reflect fundamental ethical principles. Please read “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops found under PARISH DOCUMENTS on the parish website https://cherokeecountycatholics.org/, especially pp. 20-25, which explain Catholic social teaching, and pp. 26-36, which explain in detail the many issues that Catholics need to consider. These include human life, promoting peace, marriage and family life, religious freedom, preferential option for the poor and economic justice, health care, migration, Catholic education, promoting justice and countering violence, combatting unjust discrimination, care for creation, communications/media/culture, and global solidarity. On pp. 36-37, the United States Bishops offer policy goals that they hope will guide Catholics as they form their consciences and reflect on the moral dimensions of their public choices.
In addition the newly released FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP For Iowa Catholics – 2020 can be found at the same location as well as an interesting guide from "Church Militant."
